Martin Varsavsky is founder and CEO of Wi-Fi reseller Fon and a veteran of Spanish language telecom companies. Varsavsky founded Viatel in 1991, a fiber circuit operator connecting Western Europe and the east coast of the United States. Vitatel went public in 1994 and Varsavsky later sold his stake for $200 million. In 1997 Varsavsky founded Jazztel Telecommunications to provide broadband access to residential and commercial users in Spain. Jazztel went public in late 1999. Varsavsky founded Ya.com in 1999 as a Jazztel web portal subsidiary and sold the business to Deutsche Telekom in 2000.
